  • Sympathy Sickness

It's been a difficult week here at mikeandnichaveababy.blog.co.uk Towers. Nicola has had it tough due to a stomach bug that has seen her throw up like she is unleashing something truly terrible from the gates of hell and (I really don't want to go into to detail about the 'and' but seeing as this is a warts and all account.....) drop things into the toilet that began to strip the wallpaper.

This meant that she has had to take 5 days off her work and lounge about the house with Lucy the dog.

Due to that, there ain't too much to report on the news side of things however, I can confirm that prior to her sickness bug I did manage to have some sympathy morning sickness. I have felt it really quite important that I try and go along with Nic on this crazy journey as much as possible so last Saturday I prepared to get some morning sickness. Now to do this (and I'm not sure how many people have tried this?) you have to firstly get mentally prepared. Going into a quiet place and concentrating on the job at hand mentally prepare some people. Others do it by just grabbing the bull by the horns and just going for it. I did it by getting up early in the morning and going on a 14 hour drinking bender to Perth as part of Paul Rose's stag day. By the end of the day I was in the sympathy position to find myself bloated (I pretended with child) and ready to blow chunks early into Sunday morning. It wasn't pretty but few things are on this blog but I now know exactly how the pregnant female feels and all I can say is - wow, you women really will find the slightest excuse to complain :DD

Ally made a good point in his comment about Frank and I can confirm that we have tried to get in contact with him but so far he hasn't replied to any emails. I believe his email address is still frankthemancar@oz.com but if anyone knows any different please let us know. The main thing we want to know is if he would mind if we called the kid after him.

Thats it till next week I think. We should have some wacky story as we start dog training classes on Monday and I'm sure hilarity will follow.

    Cheers

    Mick and Nic

  • Woh woh woh, what did you say?

Ok, it seems sensible to start at the beginning (cliché number 1).

As most of the world is now aware and as the title of the blog suggests, Mike and Nic are pregnant. Well, Nicola is pregnant. It should read, Nic is pregnant; Mike is just slightly over weight. Nicola is expanding due to nature, Mike is expanding due to an over comfortable lifestyle, kebabs and beer.

Without going into to too much detail on how we got into this situation, especially before the watershed, I can confirm that this was not planned. All I can say is that I used my best lines, worked my moves, danced in what can only be described as tight leather and bing bop bang, next thing we know, Nic is up the stick.

We found out just before Christmas, when a quiet but insistive phone call from the heroine of this tale, pointed me in the direction of Morrisons where I purchased my first ever pregnancy kit. I headed home that evening to cook the tea, whilst Nic went to pee on a stick. Now when she had been in the bathroom for 20 minutes, my keen senses became suspicious that perhaps she might be mulling over more than just trying to remember how to flush. I chapped on the door like any man would do with a "Fit ye deein min?" call only for the door to be opened and a teary Nicola pushed a peed on stick into my hand that said 'pregnant'. Now, I looked for a good 10 seconds at this thing and could not find the word 'NOT' anywhere. Obviously, this had to be incorrect so after we hugged it out, I sent her back in to go again. 2 out of 2.

By this point I was fairly convinced that we were indeed pregnant, however young Nicola would have carried on peeing on sticks for days on end until one came back as not pregnant. I had to put a stop to this quick because at 12 pounds a pop, this had the potential to eat into my Christmas drinking fund!

Now, at the same time as we found out, we also decided to get a dog. This may not have been the wisest thing to do given our new circumstances but it is done now. So, Lucy the dog - 7 months old at Christmas and not particularly housetrained / trained, joined our little family. This is a vital part of our tail because Lucy hasn't really helped Nicola during these early stages. She is full of beans (beans beans are good for your heart, beans beans, well, you know the rest), and is very excitable. This makes it very difficult for Nic when she is jumping about but thankfully she is calming down somewhat and once we get her into classes, I'm sure she will be a great dog.

This great dog however, defined the first 12 weeks perfectly for me only but a few weeks ago. Morning sickness it turns out doesn't just happen in the morning. No no, its bloody constant. Now Nic hasn't really been sick that much but has been constantly nauseous. One evening when she was sick however, I heard this terrible noise coming from the bathroom. It sort of sounded like a demonic possession of some kind and the noise made can't be spelt. If it could though, it would be spelt like huuuughghhghghghgghgg. hugghgiuujhghghgghgh. At the end of it all, I walked in to find the sink full of sweet n sour chicken that I had prepared an hour earlier. Being the dutiful man, I accepted this and told Nic to go to her bed so I could sort out the chunks. I went to get the kitchen roll (thinking about it now, I wonder if the hoover would have worked? Anyone know?) so I wondered into the kitchen only to find Lucy (God she is so adorable) using the kitchen floor as a pregnancy test. Why do you test me lord? I am but a man! Hey, but do you hear me complain?

Anyway, the purpose of this blog is just to keep a wee diary thing / journal of the pregnancy and keep everyone updated. We had the 12 week scan last Wednesday and I happy to report that we have 2 legs, 2 hands and a heed. We have the 20 week scan in the middle of April and hopefully between now and then, Nicola will have started to feel alot better and she can start to enjoy the moment. I must confess that due to a lot going on at work, I have not been as much support to Nic as I should have been but will make sure that lessons are learnt.

I hope to update this weekly with a tale or 2 and your comments are most welcome.

In the meantime, the dog just peed on the kitchen floor again so I better go find the mop.

    Bye
